Parallels between what happened in Tie Ltd-and what's happening in Lothian buses

on Sat, 11/15/2014 - 22:24

This article spells out why the present events inside Lothian Buses and Transport for Edinburgh are not new--but connected to the very similar events inside the now defunct TIE Ltd company that oversaw the abject mismangement of the tram project and its risible inepitude, that saw the label 'Edinburgh Tram' become a global byword for incompetence.

To have the city become a synonym for world class stupidity once is bad enough...but are we now at the start of repeating the whole sorry saga?

Congratulations!! you are taking part in Edinburgh Council's innovative city wide health study experiment.

As part of the project the Council is committed to not irresponsibly burdening you with any unnecessary facts about the experiment---such as the fact (UK Govt 2014) that last year 205 people died early than they should have in Edinburgh because of the effects of traffic created pollutants

The air that we breathe

on Sat, 06/14/2014 - 19:09

With the public Inquiry into the Edinburgh Tram Project announced it is vital the effects of the project are covered by its remit.

There is a major, known defect in the very basic way the tram was conceived in OUR city.

The Tram causes air pollution increases.

The Council steadfastly refuse to acknowledge this.

They say a tram cannot cause pollution only traffic can do that,so the traffic is to blame and so we need to reduce traffic.

The tram creates so much traffic pollution that the Council know they have no way of reducing traffic sufficently to make even a dent in the rises they have

public inquiry now, please? Reasons why people need to make sure they are heard

on Mon, 06/02/2014 - 20:52

If you want to see a public inquiry into the tram project and circumstances that surround it please click the link to connect to an online petition presented by Daniel Donaldson asking for one.

Some people want an inquiry because they want to know exactly what happened in order to learn lessons from it for the future -- After more than £ONE BILLION much of it wasted in barely believable circumstances that is perfectly reasonable

Our group shares that wish, but possibly even more importantly (at least from our perspective), we would like a properly constituted, independent, judge-led public

Air pollution scandal in Edinburgh

on Fri, 04/11/2014 - 20:43

Well over 4 years ago a small group of residents in Edinburgh first went to the Council with some quesions, and concerns, about the tram project.

The questions were about the seriousness of traffic pollution obvious even the,n and the apparent blind spot within the tram project around what would happen in our city when so much road space formerly used by traffic was being taken by the tram.

At the time we just expected that the questions would be addressed, the problems at least acknowldged, and the answers would be ones we could understand ---- even if we wouldn't  like some of them.

Traffic levels down but pollution up

on Sun, 03/16/2014 - 21:03

Last year, in January the City of Edinburgh Council's transport and executive committee sat down to the  transport review in which the usual boxes were ticked, and (self) congratulatory pats on (own) backs flagged up by the helpful people in the Transport department at Waverley Court.

A closer look shows that the flagged-up reduction in traffic was accompanied a very much NOT flagged-up RISE in pollution--- scroll through the appendix , look hard, and you will find the NO2 levels.

  • FEWER vehicles (5% down) and MORE pollution from traffic (14%up).

This is a classic example of reports being

Is there cognitive dissonance on a mass scale inside Edinburgh's Council

on Mon, 02/10/2014 - 21:08

a) Council know pollution is bad and should be reduced

b) Council told tram project WILL raise pollution in streets where people live--65% of the city will be worse off in terms of Particulate pollution BECAUSE of their tram plan...

c) Council build tram anyway.

d) Council spend years calling it their green project

That's more cognitive dissonace than a piano rolling down a 200 foot staircase.

"On time and on Budget"--- We built HALF the plan for TWICE the price...including the very worst little mile or so that caused the largest part of the pollution.

We now call it a success, we call

Tips for Dog walkers in Edinburgh

on Sat, 01/25/2014 - 11:48

The council's 'stealth policy' of displacement of traffic pollution FROM old main roads, those 'city centre main roads' that used to be the noisy crowded ones, to residential roads that are now the noisy crowded ones has one important aspect affecting ...... Dogs.

While city centre streets are cleansed to become leisure and event spaces open to more 'monetisation' by business (and of course the Council), one group of people may unwittingly be exposing their 'Best Friends' to a far higher level of risk as the old quiet streets increasingly become the new busy streets -------  Dog owners.

come on!! It isn't even an argument anymore

on Wed, 01/22/2014 - 12:35

Layer by layer the Council's attempt to defend the indenfensible is being stripped away.

Today yet another massive report is all over the print, broadcast and internet media, showing yet again how big an issue traffic created pollution is for towns and cities across the world.

This is a problem that is going to end up creating enormous social changes across the entire world... and it is a problem that has lain at the heart of the issue our small group has had to fight to publicise for years.

It is a global problem..but even so Edinburgh stands unique amongst every major city in the world.

Chance to be heard AND a chance to listen?

on Mon, 11/18/2013 - 19:08

January 14th and 15th early next year.

Two dates to pencil in if you want to have a little look at how things get done in Edinburgh.

A Public Hearing (so all are welcome) at which the topic is various effects of the traffic displacement now being caused by the abject transport planning across a decade or more.

Don't be put off thinking that the title on the letter (see here in our document vault) means it is just about Charlotte Square.

It's about more than that; it's a good look at the way big issues split up into little pieces of issues these days, in order that any opposing views
