Air pollution scandal in Edinburgh

on Fri, 04/11/2014 - 20:43

Well over 4 years ago a small group of residents in Edinburgh first went to the Council with some quesions, and concerns, about the tram project.

The questions were about the seriousness of traffic pollution obvious even the,n and the apparent blind spot within the tram project around what would happen in our city when so much road space formerly used by traffic was being taken by the tram.

Tips for Dog walkers in Edinburgh

The council's 'stealth policy' of displacement of traffic pollution FROM old main roads, those 'city centre main roads' that used to be the noisy crowded ones, to residential roads that are now the noisy crowded ones has one important aspect affecting ...... Dogs.

What does the proposed M1 Motorway speed limit tell us about Edinburgh?

The BBC and other media have been telling us that the government is proposing to set up a 60mph speed limit for a 32-mile stretch of the M1, in a bid to cut pollution.

This is because reducing the speed from 70mph to 60mph is expected to reduce the adverse effects of the traffic in respect of air quality.

A view on the tram

Sometimes , someone will get right at the heart of the matter, as here in this piece on the Edinburgh Guide website.

This is the sort of analysis,  from council and scottish Government supplied facts, data and statistics that never gets heard in the outpourings from the Council's steam driven PR machine.

The Council desperately want it to be good, and they think/hope/crave it will be seen to be to be good just as soon as the first tram runs.

Open Data at G8... not in Edinburgh

Suddenly Summer and sunshine is breaking out all over where the Public's right to know is concerned.

Except in Edinburgh.

While the reported potential committment from the G8 countries has yet to materialise, the trailing of it in newspapers like the Telegraph indicate some kind of realisation is dawning that 'their data' IS actually 'our data'- and it's in their interest to wake up and realise this.

Pollution a problem,? Try telling that to the Scientific Services depart

on Sun, 03/17/2013 - 22:58

Another day and another article prompted by the City of Edinburgh Council, the Council quotes spin around the possibility of Low Emission Zones, not a new idea and not a bad idea...but no excuse us if we don't seem overjoyed to hear it.

Traffic fumes are dangerous shock...article

on Tue, 02/05/2013 - 23:09

Here's an article spelling out why traffic fumes are dangerous.

As the writer shows, and every scientific study for several decades has shown, these pollutants are killers.

Obviously traffic causes these pollutants, and so we have to do something about traffic- and urgently? Right?

Wrong!
