Edinburgh labelled a dump?

That may be the reaction in Edinburgh Council to an article by an Edinburgh University academic that examines some unpalatable aspects and failures about the way the city has been run and the effects of these systemic governance failures now emerging across the city.

Why everything to do with the Trams in Edinburgh is never what it seems

This contribution to explaining the unavoidable economics of the Tram project and by that, shedding light on the it, is from John Carson a long standing, well informed and knowledgeable critic of the Project.

The underlying economics of the recent headline announcement by CEC of their 'winning concessionary fares for the Tram' were not made clear by the Council.

The Francis report, published today, into the scandal of the Mid Staffs Hospital Trust isn't just about one Hospital, or trust or even the NHS but hopefully a wake-up call to the Public Sector as whole, Councils and indeed Big Business, the PLCs and multinationals that spend a large part of their ingenuity finding new and better ways to rip of thepeople they still call customers..

This piece is by an enthusiastic cyclist commenting on the 'news' being carefully revealed by the Council, over the last couple of weeks, that (gasp!!)  Princes street will not be able to take buses and trams and will be used only by trams, cyclists and pedestrians.

At present the word is 'may' not 'will' but pretty soon it wil be...will..that is.

Here's an article spelling out why traffic fumes are dangerous.

As the writer shows, and every scientific study for several decades has shown, these pollutants are killers.

Obviously traffic causes these pollutants, and so we have to do something about traffic- and urgently? Right?

We revealed that behind the typically sunny reports of the recent Transport committee meeting (jan 15th 2013) the facts that were in the report (but strangely absent from any comment by Council Officials) were :

 Pollution UP 14% while traffic levels DOWN 5%!
